Muay Thai is recognized as a national sport, but has grown popular all over the world. Our Thai boxing initiation is a great way to learn more about this amazing martial art. Muay Thai originated in the 18th century. A famous fighter named Nai Khanomtom was captured in 1767 by the Burmese. They knew of his expertise in hand-to-hand combat and gave him an opportunity to fight for his freedom by competition. After he was able to knock out ten consecutive Burmese contenders, he was freed by his captors and allowed to return to Siam where he was acknowledged as a hero, and his fighting style became known as Siamese-Style boxing, which later became Muay Thai.
Mowadays, Muay Thai is a very popular spectator sport – there are Thai Boxing Gyms everywhere in the country, with fights being held all the time. This sport’s roots are as ancient as the culture itself, and it is both impressive to watch and amazing to practice. Muay Thai is often referred to as the "Art of Eight Limbs", because it makes use of punches, kicks, elbows and knee strikes, therefore using eight points of contact. Professionals train for years to perfect the sport, but with our Thai Boxing initiation you’ll have the chance to cover the basics with a professional.
This is the perfect way to add a little competition to your group activities, and it is also great for building teamwork skills! As Muay Thai Boxing is a martial art, the purpose is not just to learn to defend oneself, but also to learn to respect others and practice self-control.
