The origins of Thai Boxing

Muay Thai originated in the 18th century and has an important place in Thai culture, so much so that it has its own stories and historical facts.

A famous fighter named Nai Khanomtom was captured in 1767 by the Burmese. They knew of his expertise in hand-to-hand combat and gave him an opportunity to fight for his freedom by competition.

After he was able to knock out ten consecutive Burmese contenders with no rest periods, he was freed by his captors and allowed to return to Siam where he was acknowledged as a hero, and his fighting style became known as Siamese-Style boxing, which later became Muay Thai.

As well as being a martial art technique that can be used in actual warfare, this sport developed and slowly became a national sport in which the opponents fought in front of spectators who went to watch for entertainment.
